Community engagement opportunities as Middle Arm planning advances

Expert master planning is underway to transform Middle Arm into a globally competitive low-emissions precinct. Sustainable outcomes and environmental protection of Darwin Harbour and surrounds are at the core of master planning for the precinct.

We’re harnessing the Territory’s strategic advantages to transform how energy is produced, transported and consumed.

The Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct will propel advanced manufacturing, gas-based processing, hydrogen production and critical minerals processing supported by diverse clean energy solutions.

The precinct will also look to realise one of the world’s largest carbon capture, usage and storage hubs to capture at least 90 per cent of precinct emissions.

Throughout September and October, the Territory Government will be in the community at local markets and shopping centres seeking community feedback about the precinct.

Feedback is a key component of planning, design and the Strategic Environmental Assessment.

Strategic Environmental Assessments are a holistic and efficient approach to assessing cumulative impacts rather than individual projects assessments in isolation, providing greater certainty for stakeholders and delivering better environmental outcomes.

The draft Strategic Environmental Assessment is due for submission during the first half of 2023 and will be placed on public exhibition for stakeholder comment.

In addition to the upcoming community information stalls, stakeholders can provide feedback as part of the independent social impact assessment through the Have Your Say website.

The precinct is a unique opportunity to achieve both net zero 2050 commitments and deliver sustainable economic growth.
