Resources week brings the oil and gas sector together

The Gas Taskforce participated in an array of presentation, industry engagement and panel facilitation opportunities at the Northern Territory Resources Week, part of the South East Asia Australia Offshore and Onshore Conference (SEAAOC).

SEAAOC is Northern Australia’s largest conference and brings together major players from Australasia’s oil, gas and petroleum industries

"This event is a significant marker of sentiment, and the exceptional optimism displayed from industry and the Australian Government in our oil and gas sectors was outstanding," said Alister Trier, Gas Taskforce Chair said.

The federal address from the Hon Keith Pitt MP, Minister for Resources, Water and Northern Australia strongly acknowledged how the Territory, and our world-class resources, have never been more important to national sustainable economic growth.

"Our gas reserves will fundamentally change the Territory economy, and provide a significant boost nationally over the coming years. The way the nation sees the Territory has shifted – we are being noticed and for all the right reasons", said Mr Trier.

2050 net-zero emissions targets was a key focal area which highlighted the vital role of the Territory’s world-class gas deposits as a low-carbon transition fuel.

"We embrace the net zero destination — and the responsibility it carries. Our aim is to meet or beat net zero targets while offering companies a strong competitive and strategic advantage to doing business here," said Michael Gunner, Chief Minister.

The dual role gas will play in supporting the transition to renewables and in growing advanced local manufacturing opportunities was a resonating take home message from the conference.

"Territory gas has the potential to be one of the biggest things that Northern Australia and particularly the Northern Territory will ever see", said Mr Trier.
