Territory Hydrogen Cluster Announced

A network of regional hydrogen technology clusters has today been unveiled across Australia, including Darwin, as part of a drive to establish a nationwide hydrogen cluster.

Led by National Energy Resources Australia (NERA), the national cluster will establish a global identity and a recognised brand for Australian hydrogen technology and expertise. It will also aid the development of the hydrogen supply chain, reduce overlaps and identify gaps in the development, deployment, and commercialisation of new hydrogen focused technologies.

The Territory Hydrogen Technology Cluster follows the conclusion of a seed funding selection program started by NERA in September.

The Darwin Innovation Plan will play a central role in connecting Territory hydrogen projects to the export market, utilising the Territory's deep sea port and geographical advantage to South East Asia, establishing an identity for the Northern Territory as a leader in the world transition to renewable hydrogen, whilst building local capacity also supporting local jobs.

The Territory Government launched the Renewable Hydrogen Strategy, bringing the Territory to the forefront of the developing renewable hydrogen industry with large areas of land with high solar irradiance, close proximity to export markets.

The Territory Government are working with industry and the Australian Government to transform Middle Arm into a globally competitive low emissions precinct with a focus on renewable hydrogen, carbon capture utilisation and storage, low-emissions petrochemicals, minerals processing and advanced manufacturing.

The Darwin Innovation Hub has been appointed Cluster Manager alongside a Steering Committee which includes the Northern Territory Government, Charles Darwin University and the Energy Club NT.
